Today I would like to talk to you about protecting your travel investment. Hurricane season starts June 1 – November 1, and we’ve seen first hand the mass devastation that Hurricane Matthew has caused in Haiti, Jamaica, The Bahamas Islands, Florida and parts of North and South Carolina.
As a Travel Specialist, I find it baffling why one would not want to add travel protection to their vacation package. Why would you not want to protect your investment? I can bet that everyone reading this article has a cell phone and not just your average cell phone, I’m sure you have the latest smartphone on the market. I can also bet that you have insurance for that cell phone right? So answer this.question…..why would you not want to insure your vacation?
I had 6 clients in Jamaica at the time Hurricane Matthew was supposed to touch ground on the island. Three out of the six travelers purchased insurance. I’m thankful my clients made it out of Jamaica before Matthew touched ground and so are they!
This could’ve turned out bad for the three who didn’t purchase insurance. Airline change fees cost you $200 – $250 per person along with the cost of the new ticket if it’s more than the previous purchased flight. The change fee is waived with the purchase of travel protection. Also, if you’re unable to leave the resort due to the severity of the storm the resort charges you for each day that you’re there. With travel protection depending on the plan you purchase will cover the expenses incurred if your trip is delayed and will cover reasonable, additional accommodations and travel expenses until travel becomes possible.
In the event of a covered hurricane or other unforeseen severe weather, travel insurance provides coverage under the Trip Cancellation and Interruption benefit. If your trip is cancelled for a covered reason, you will be refunded the pre-paid, forfeited, non-refundable trip costs trip up to the limit of coverage.
To demonstrate the importance of purchasing travel insurance, and emergency travel services, here are 5 common examples of what could go wrong.
- It’s 7 p.m. and you and your friends arrive at the airport for a connecting flight, only to find that your flight has been cancelled. Who can assist you with finding new flights to get everyone home?
- Your first visit to Europe, and your passport and wallet are stolen. Where do you turn for assistance in obtaining emergency cash, and how will you get your passport replaced?
- You’re walking down the street in Cancun and twist your ankle. Who is able to assist you in finding an English-speaking physician?
- You’re involved in an accident and adequate medical treatment is not available. Who will help coordinate a medical evacuation?
- Three weeks before your scheduled arrival, a terrorist incident occurs in the city to which you are planning to visit. Who will reimburse you if you want to cancel your trip?
Protect your investment by adding travel insurance to your vacation package. The additional cost is pennies compared to what it will cost you if you don’t add it and something goes wrong.
