The Invitations: Capturing the Magic
Earlier this year, United Kingdom company Adorn Wedding Invitations where tasked with the challenge of designing celebrity icon Vanessa Williams’ wedding invites. After an epic three-month journey, of design and production work, the team crafted something Vanessa describes as “a beautiful piece of art”.
Vanessa and Jim needed a company that would capture the essence of their story and in doing so; create an invitation that was unique. United Kingdom company Adorn Invitations were the perfect choice for this. While capturing the magic of this particular story was no easy feat, their design team was fuelled by the inspiration of Vanessa and Jim’s love. They began with three things; a gold theme, Vanessa’s gown and a shortlisted pin board to work from. Using hand sketches, which were digitalized, the design team developed a single shape which, when multiplied, created a seamless and uniformed pattern.
Playing on the intricacy of Vanessa’s dress, the team decided they would also tie in a laser cut pocket to the front of the invitation. Aesthetically this looked fantastic, but resulted in 586 small shapes that needed to be precision laser cut by machine operators!
The Colours of Love and Egypt
The Pantone Colour of the Year, Marsala, has rich, earthy tones and connotations of lust, romance and passion. Dowsing the petals of roses and embodying the darker grapes of wine, this intoxicating colour perfectly reflected the intensity of Vanessa and Jim’s love. The golden hues, of the Egyptian landscape where Jim and Vanessa first met, were the perfect contrast for this colour. When used on the foiled lettering and encasing, the gold and Marsala were breathtaking.
The End Result
The invitation was finished with a lavish 14-carat gold lotus on the gate of the enclosure, to represent fortune and prosperity. Sealed with a wax stamp and personalized logo, this custom crafted design ignites a sense of occasion just to see it. Vanessa and Jim married earlier this year, on the fourth of July, and described the invitations as “a huge hit with [their] guests”!
